Princess Peach: Behind the Song
Welcome and thanks for reading! Over the weekend I published my second single ever, titled "Princess Peach," off of my coming 'mixtape,' which will be titled The Almighty Project.
If you have not yet listened to the song, I suggest you take a bit of caution--it is most definitely not what most of my fans are accustomed to. This hip-hop style song is sassy, brassy, and a little alter-ego-esque, if you know what I mean. To give you an idea, here is one of my favorite (and less explicit) lines:
"You say you really like me, you wanna get to know me, with your hands up my skirt,
Well..maybe I'm cynical, but damn, you're so predictable--like Ash, if he was a flirt ..(gotta catch 'em all)"
So, if you couldn't tell by the title alone, the entire sing is referencing different video games my fellow 90's babies should find quite nostalgic. With numerous Super Mario references, a little Pokèmon, GTA, Sonic, Zelda, and more.
I'm sure some of you are wondering what might have inspired me to write this vulgar song about 90's video games. Well, the idea to include video games was inspired by the beat, entirely. I bought the beat from a local beat maker called Luke Almighty (hence the name of the project title). Immediately upon hearing it, I could only think of those retro video games we all used to know and love as kids.
The topic seemed appropriate enough--linking the common and complicated struggles of modern dating with the sentimental simplicity of childhood gaming seemed a perfect fit. As for the crude lyricism..I suppose that kind of just came with the territory. Sorry, grandma.
Anyway, I had been sitting on a rough copy of this song for several months, and had not really given it a second thought until last week, suddenly, the inspiration struck. So I just sat down and hammered out a final enough copy to distribute. Of course I'm not totally happy with it. Would I really be an artist if I was? But I think it's fun, comical, and catchy. I personally can't stop singing it.
If you have not yet heard it, or if you have and LOVE it, you have every option available for purchase and/or streaming: iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, Google Play, Amazon, Deezer, Tidal, etc.
But if you have none of those and want to skip the fuss, this single can be yours, in exchange for your new email subscription!
